How to wash Wedding Dress and How to Remove Old Stains From it
Who does not want things to be perfect on their big day? Of course everyone! From wedding preparations to wedding dress, everything means a great deal to a woman. Her dress is supposed to be perfect, amazing and something that she can flaunt as a bride!
Now imagine you are a bride, and you have found the dress of your dreams! The incomparable, most radiant and jaw-dropping dress that you have always wanted to have! But because perfection is hard to attain, a visible stain appears on the dress and is as obvious as a flashing neon sign! You want to remove it and the fear of not having the best dress is taking over! What are you going to do?
Don’t panic BRIDES, there are ways to remove stains from a wedding dress, even at the last minute without getting worried about the cleaning wedding dress cost.
Rules for Removing Old Stains From a Wedding Dress
The first and foremost rule is that any mother would tell you: DON’T MAKE IT WORSE! Remember sweet brides, never – I repeat never go with your bride-instinct to rub or scrub the stain on your wedding dress if it’s old or new. Instead, if the stain comes from a liquid, use a white paper or cotton towel to blot away as much moisture as possible. For solid residue on the fabric of the dress, use the edge of a spoon, a dull knife, or a credit card to gently lift it away.
Remember pretties, when you are treating the stain and cleaning wedding dress at home, you should always go from the outer edges toward the center to help prevent the stain from spreading. Also, you do not want color to fade after a stain, do you? So another important thing is that all cleaning products should be tested first on the interior seam of your baby dress to make sure there is no color change or damage to the fabric. Once you have removed the stain, if you must dry the area in a hurry, use a hairdryer, but please keep in mind to keep it set on low heat and at least six inches away from the dress to prevent damage to the fabric, trim, and beading.
Stock Up on Stain Removal Supplies
Your stained wedding dress now deserves much more attention, beauties. So you should stock up on stain removal supplies quickly before it gets difficult to remove and you become more and more sad for your loss.
A list of stain removal supplies that you should get your hands on, quickly:
- Cotton swabs
- White cotton or paper towels
- Clear dishwashing liquid
- Stain removal wipes or pen
- Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol
- Sticky tape
- Dull edged knife, spoon, or credit card
- Baby powder, cornstarch, baking soda, white or off-white chalk
Stain, Stain GO AWAY, Come Again Another Day!
If you have got stains on your wedding dress weeks before the wedding, the wise thing to do is to take it to a professional dry cleaner. But wedding preps can be hectic and if there isn’t time for all that, here are some tips on how to remove or hide different types of stains on your wedding dress and save the day.
Wedding dresses are not made for washing machines however, there are a number of clothes that can be.
How to Remove Stains from a Wedding Dress
Pollen
The yellow stuff can leave an unpleasant mark, whether it originates from your bouquet anyone gave you or the great outside. To treat such a stain, you should grab some adhesive tape, then gently remove the pollen grains. But God Forbid, if you rub, the pollen will become further embedded in the fabric and remain there! So don’t make a mistake like this!
If the pollen has left a stain on the cloth, you can cover it with baking soda, cornstarch, baby powder, or chalk to conceal the stain. Be smart and try to combine the powders to create a color that most closely matches your clothing. You will be saved for the day and can continue with cleaning wedding dress after wedding either with your hands or in the washing machine! As the True Fresh cleaning tablets keep the washing machine healthy and working for a very long time and you need not to worry about the life of your machine!
Mud
It’s an unsaid thing that you should not play around in your wedding dress (to not get mud on your dress obviously). But imagine you do, before treating any discoloration, if there is time you should let the mud or dirt dry so it can be swept away. If there isn’t enough time to clean wedding dress before wedding, lift away any solids and blot as much wetness as you can. Start at the edges of the stain and work your way toward the center using a stain remover wipe or stain removal pen. To absorb the excess soil, keep pressing with a white towel.

Grass
Dear brides, leave the grass stain alone unless it’s on the center of your dress; otherwise, it will be difficult to remove it in time. You can also use baby powder or chalk to cover the stain, if necessary. You can get this stain removed by a professional dry cleaner after the wedding or photo shoot.
Red Wine
This one is the toughest of stains to remove! In case you drop wine on your dress you should quickly grab a white towel as quickly as possible and blot away the wine. Separate multiple layers of the dress with white towels and treat each layer of fabric. Mix a solution of one part dishwashing liquid and three parts water. Dip a white cloth in the mixture and work from the outer edges of the stain toward the center.

Oil or Grease
Playing around with oil doesn’t make sense around your wedding dress! So the best way is to NOT! However, if the oily drip hits the dress, cover it with a thick layer of baby powder or cornstarch to absorb it. Let it sit for 15 minutes and then gently brush or blow the powder away. Repeat this to help absorb as much of the oil as possible. Dip a cotton swab in isopropyl alcohol (or vodka) and dab from the outer edges of the stain toward the center. The stain will definitely come out.
Makeup
When it comes to makeup stains, prevention is key because lipstick and mascara are so challenging to wash out. If you have to slip your dress over your head, cover your face with a silk scarf. For last-minute adjustments, and touch ups you should always drape your dress with a robe or piece of fabric.

If worse comes to worst, use sticky tape or a hairdryer to remove dry powders, and use a dull edged object to take off lumps of lip gloss or foundation. For colorful stains, use a stain removal wipe or a little makeup remover on a cotton swab. Baby powder can be used to absorb oily spots. Yet again, to remove the stain, always work from the outer corners into the center.

Blood
Somehow you have got blood on your dress (that I believe should not happen) because who does that? But anyways you have got it now, you should quickly blot away fresh blood with a white towel. After that you should dampen a cotton swab with saliva (as one’s saliva has enzymes that help remove the bloodstain) Weird no? Or cool water and dab the stain. Keep moving to a clean swab as the blood is transferred. Allow the fabric to air dry and camouflage any remaining stain with baby powder.
Conclusion:
We realize that brides deserve the best for their big day and that is why we have explained how to remove stains in detail above. You might want to know more about cleaning different stuff like shoes, dresses etc. The method is quite simple and not time taking at all!
