How to wash White Sheets – A Guide to Keeping Your White Sheets Looking Bright and Beautiful
With their ageless, airy appearance, white sheets serve as an icon of minimalism. White bedding doesn’t have as much intricacy in terms of aesthetics, but it requires a lot of maintenance. Although there are several ways to clean your stained white sheets (did someone say bleach?), if you’re not careful with them, you can find yourself having to live in your laundry room.
There is nothing better than a fresh set of white sheets, and from what we can tell, you want yours to stay that way. Here are a few things to stay away from if you want to maintain the health of your pearly white sheets.
Things That You Should Avoid Near White Sheets
1. Keep changing your white sheets
While it’s necessary to regularly wash all sheets, white sheets require extra attention if you want to prolong their life. You should change your sheets at least once a week to ensure that they last as long as possible in the best condition. (Keeping a few extra pairs on hand for that precise reason won’t hurt.)
2. Don’t eat in bed
It’s literally a nightmare to drop coffee or chocolate on freshly-laundered white sheets! Do you recall how it felt to accidentally pour a glass of Cabernet on a crisp white blouse? Think about it, but in your bedroom.
It may sound obvious, but you should simply refrain from eating or drinking while you are in bed if you don’t want food residue or stains to be left on your sheets. There isn’t much that a little bleach can’t fix, but eliminating stains and spills from the start will cut down on your laundry time and keep your sheets from suffering unnecessarily.
3. Don’t go to bed with makeup on
Another somewhat uncomfortable no-brainer: It’s IMPORTANT to wipe your makeup off before going to bed! The makeup that you so happily apply on your face is not very good for your white sheets. It’s better that you remove it if you love your sheets, dearly.
4. Don’t wash white sheets in cold water
White sheets are high risk, high reward. The question of whether should you wash white sheets in hot or cold or what temperature to wash white sheets is very common and often asked. They look gorgeous, but they’re pretty much stained by everything. Although hot or cold water, white sheets do not spare anyone but it’s better to opt for hot water instead. It will more thoroughly (and hygienically!) clean them. However, before clean and white sheets, make sure you clean the previous filth off of your washing machine that has been accumulated inside. Your machine demands love and care, use those magical True Fresh Washing Machine Cleaner Tablets for prolonged life of your washing machine and keep giving care to your white sheets as you should!
5. Don’t use chlorine bleach
Of course, bleach is an excellent tool for maintaining the color of white goods. However, that does not imply that any bleach will work! In fact, in addition to damaging some fabrics, using chlorine bleach can also make your white linens yellow!! (you don’t want that)
Use oxygen bleach (also known as sodium percarbonate) to clean your white linens instead of chlorine bleach. It is better for cleaning other surfaces. Additionally, as baking soda is more likely to be on hand, you might try using that as well and washing your whites with it. However, if it’s too late and your white sheets are already starting to look yellow, don’t get worried about how to keep white sheets white, you can simply try cooling them with a liquid bluing solution.
6. Don’t mindlessly make your way through your laundry cycle
You undoubtedly already know that washing white sheets (in order to keep them soft and white) requires more care than, say, washing worn-out T-shirts or towels. Watch how much detergent you use when washing a load of white bedding: Your linens may rapidly start to seem dingy due to the accumulation of detergent residue.
To ensure that the suds were properly rinsed away, check your bedding after the rinse cycle. If not, you might need to add a cup of white vinegar to the load just before the final rinse cycle, run an additional rinse-and-spin cycle, or both. (Using white vinegar to clean your washing machine is also highly recommended.)

How to Wash White Sheets:
As it has been thoroughly explained above, white sheets need to be kept away from A LOT of things. You can follow these simple instructions to wash your white sheets.
- Sort your sheets by color. You should wash whites separately from other colors to prevent dye bleeding.
- Check the care label on your sheets to see if they are machine washable. If they are, set your machine to the appropriate water temperature and cycle. If the sheets are not machine washable, hand wash them in a basin or tub.
- Pre-treat any stains or areas of heavy soiling with a spot cleaner or a small amount of detergent. Rub the stain gently to loosen any dirt or debris before washing.
- Add detergent to the machine or basin. Use a detergent that is formulated for white clothing to help keep your sheets bright and fresh.
- Wash the sheets according to the care label instructions. If you are washing them by hand, gently agitate the water and detergent to create suds. Soak the sheets for at least 15 minutes before rinsing.
- Rinse the sheets thoroughly to remove all soap and dirt. If you are washing them by hand, wring them gently to remove excess water before transferring them to the washing machine or hanging them to dry.
- Dry the sheets according to the care label instructions. If the sheets are machine washable, you can dry them in the dryer on a low or medium heat setting. If they are not machine washable, hang them to dry or lay them flat on a clean surface.
- Remove the sheets from the dryer or hanger as soon as they are dry to prevent wrinkles and keep them looking fresh. If you are hanging them to dry, smooth out any wrinkles with your hands or a cool iron.
